Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers.
How does this tool work?
Local SERP Checker generates a special Google search URL containing a uule parameter that tells Google your search is coming from a specific geographic location. This lets you see search results as if you were physically in that city.
Is it really free?
Yes, completely free! No credit card, no signup, no API keys required. We believe local SEO tools should be accessible to everyone from freelancers to enterprise teams.
Can I check mobile results?
Yes! Use the Device toggle to switch between desktop and mobile results. Mobile results often show different rankings, especially for local queries with map packs.
Why do results look different from my actual search?
Google personalizes results based on your search history, signed-in status, and previous interactions. This tool shows non-personalized results (using pws=0). For the closest match, use an incognito window.
How accurate is the location targeting?
The location targeting is accurate to the city level. The uule parameter sets a 62km radius around the selected city’s center. For more precision, click directly on the interactive map.
Can I check Google Maps results?
Yes! Toggle the Search Engine option to “Google Maps” to see local pack results and map listings. This is perfect for checking your Google Business Profile rankings.

Deep dives into local SERP checking and how to get the most from this tool.
Local SERP checking allows you to see Google search results as they appear from any geographic location. When you search on Google, your location significantly influences the results you see, especially for queries with local intent.
This tool works by generating a special Google search URL that includes a uule parameter. The uule parameter is a Base64-encoded protobuf structure that contains latitude and longitude coordinates. When Google receives this parameter, it interprets your search as coming from that location.
Here’s the process:
- 1. Location Selection: You choose a city or click on the map to set coordinates.
- 2. UULE Encoding: The tool encodes those coordinates into Google’s uule format.
- 3. URL Generation: A complete Google search URL is built with the uule, country, language, and other parameters.
- 4. SERP Loading: The URL is loaded in an iframe or new tab, showing results from that location.
This is particularly useful for SEO professionals who need to verify local rankings for clients in different cities without physically traveling to those locations.
The uule parameter is Google’s internal mechanism for location spoofing in search URLs. It stands for “User Location Extension” and was originally designed for Google Ads to preview how ads appear in different locations.
There are two formats for the uule parameter:
- w+ format: Uses a canonical name (e.g.,
w+CAIQICIfTmV3IFlvcmsx5W9yayxVbml0ZWQgU3RhdGVz) – this is the older city-based format. - a+ format: Uses raw latitude/longitude coordinates (e.g.,
a+cm9sZToxCnByb2R1Y2VyOjEyCnByb3ZlbmFuY2U6Ngp0aW1lc3RhbXA6...) – this is the newer, more precise format that this tool uses.
The a+ format provides several advantages: it’s more precise (you can target any point on Earth), it doesn’t depend on Google’s city database, and it allows you to set custom radius values. The payload includes a timestamp in microseconds, latitude and longitude in E7 format (multiplied by 10,000,000), and a radius in meters (default 62,000m = ~38 miles).
While Google has experimented with deprecating uule at various times, it remains widely used and functional for location-based SERP checking.
To get the most out of your local SERP audits, follow these best practices:
- Use Incognito Mode: For the most accurate comparison, open the generated URL in an incognito/private browser window to avoid personalization.
- Check Multiple Locations: Don’t just check one city. Use the multi-location feature to compare rankings across your service area.
- Compare Desktop vs Mobile: Mobile local results often differ significantly from desktop, especially for “near me” queries.
- Monitor Google Maps: Toggle to Google Maps mode to check your Google Business Profile rankings in the local pack.
- Track Over Time: Save your search URLs and revisit them weekly to track ranking changes.
- Check Competitors: Search for your competitors’ brand names to see how they appear in different locations.
- Focus on Map Pack: The 3-pack results get the most clicks for local queries. Make sure you’re checking those specifically.
Remember that local rankings can fluctuate based on many factors including the searcher’s proximity, the device’s location settings, and Google’s algorithm updates. Consistent monitoring is key to understanding your local SEO performance.
